Mothers Ruined Gin is bottled with love for Mother Earth and introduces four premium gins in recyclable paperboard bottles. Handcrafted using traditional and innovative botanicals, along with the best of local fruit, there’s something to delight every palate in this award-winning range.
Mothers Ruined Gin was founded in 2022 by long-time friends Helen Gower and Jo Davy, who place sustainability at the heart of their operations in their micro-distillery on Wellington's south coast.
By using a new-to-New Zealand recycled paperboard bottle for their current product range of four gins, they are a little distillery with big ambitions to start a paper bottle revolution in Aotearoa. The environmental footprint of the bottle, which was launched in the UK in 2020, is much lower than that of a similar size glass bottle: an independent life cycle analysis by Intertek showed that the carbon footprint is up to 6X lower, the weight is 5X lower and the water required for manufacture is 4X lower.
The Mothers Ruined range has lactanol as the base alcohol and includes two colour-changing gins that rely on natural pigments from flowers. Both of these colour changes (green to lilac and gold to pink) are unique in the gin world.
