Moss Batch 2 is a full‑bodied peated New Zealand single malt aged in American oak casks, offering a gateway into the character of Aotearoa peat.
Moss Batch 2 begins with lightly peated New Zealand malt that’s double‑distilled in copper pot stills. It first matures in American oak wine barrels that have been shaved, toasted and re‑charred (STR), creating floral aromas of jasmine, honey, liquorice, vanilla bean and a touch of medicinal cough syrup. A further maturation in first‑fill bourbon barrels adds creamy texture and a lingering finish of spice, sweet fruit, and a teasing whisper of smoke. Distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2023 at 44% ABV, this non‑chill filtered spirit with no added colour has won gold medals and stands as a crowd‑pleasing expression of New Zealand peat.
